Event Time:

9:30 AM

Event Location:

Buninyong

Keith has been learning how best to apply the Demeter BD method since the 1980s. He has
been on this Buninyong block for the last 15 years. The property includes an orchard of
about 50 fruit trees, several varieties of nuts and berries, and an established veggie garden
with a mix of raised and in-ground beds.

Buninyong, by reputation, is cold and wet, but seasonal variation is the rule – and often the
challenge. Biodynamics has helped to build healthy soil and grow healthy plants – both
showing the resilience characteristics of successful application of the Australian Demeter BD
method.

Keith usually makes a BD compost heap twice a year and rotates green manure crops
through the garden to build and maintain soil structure and the crucial ‘humus bank’.

This is an introductory day, with the focus on practical application of the Australian biodynamic method. We will
build a BD compost heap and insert the preparations, as well as explore the strategic value
of green manuring.

Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of managing Australian Demeter BD preparations –
storing, stirring and applying 500 and 501. Learning these requirements is a condition of
membership of BDGA (BD Growers Australia) – the smaller-growing arm of the Demeter BD
community. Successful completion of the day is a condition of membership of BDGA – and
of access to the highest quality Australian Demeter BD preparations.

Existing BDGA members are also most welcome, at no charge, but please register.
Lunch and hot drinks will be provided.
People who register will receive a follow up email with details for the day.

Time: 9.30am arrival for a 10.00am start, finish around 3.30pm (set aside the full day in order to meet the practical requirements for membership of BDGA)

BYO: chair, mug (tea/coffee provided), work boots, wet weather gear (just in case) and a good garden fork for compost building!

Australian Demeter Biodynamic (ADBD) is committed to running safe and inclusive events to facilitate the education and training of farmers and growers in the Australian Demeter Biodynamic method.

For any enquiries before or after registering please contact our Member officer, Sarah O’Sullivan at bdga@demeterbiodynamic.com.au or on 0421950013.
